Myopenbar and Drambuie Present: Cinema 16 in Chicago
Full Name:

Email:

In an era when movies are often reduced to the solitary screens of laptops and iPods, the acclaimed Cinema 16 series offers a true revival of the medium. Pairing obscure vintage film programs with live scores composed and performed by specially chosen musicians, Cinema 16 recreates the shared experience and awe of the 1920's silent film era.

The Wednesday, November 25th edition of Cinema 16 is being held at one of Chicago's most unique and intimate independent venues, Wicker Park’s Chopin Theater.

Both the entertainment and the cocktails for the evening will be complimentary, thanks to Drambuie, the fabled Scottish spiced whiskey.

Chandeliers, a Chicago-based musical collective that has garnered much critical acclaim, will score three sensational and ominous short films, inaugurating the last installment of five Drambuie-sponsored Cinema 16 soirees. Screenings for the 25th of November include:

  • Aleph, 1966 – Artist and filmmaker Wallace Berman made his one and only cinematic masterpiece Aleph, between 1956-1966.  The film is a meditation on life, death, sex, politics, and pop culture.
  • Oramunde, 1933 – American filmmaker and aritst Elmen Etting directed this beautiful folkloric piece using the elements of dance in the backdrop of nature. Ahead of its time and poetic, this was one of the earliest films to experiment with abstract movement.
  • Junky’s Xmas, 1993 – On Christmas day, Danny the Carwiper skulks the streets looking for a fix.  Produced by Francis Ford Coppola and written by William Burroughs.

Wednesday, November 25, 7:30pm
